The Ricetto di Candelo at Biella is an architectural masterpiece that dates back to the Middle Ages and which had the task of accumulating and protecting the products of the land of the population. The charm of its cobblestone walls, towers and houses have allowed the small town of Candelo, located at the gates of Biella, to be included among the most beautiful villages in Italy making it a perfect destination especially on days when events are organized and historical re-enactments.
A PERFECTLY PRESERVED VILLAGE
The Ricetto di Candelo has been able to maintain its original structure unchanged and also preserves the beautiful Prince's palace built in the late 1400's. Of great importance are the almost two hundred cells, characteristic two-storey houses formed by a caneva that served from winery for the production of wine and a drier upper floor, essential to ensure the preservation of wheat in the wettest months. Its four towers (the one to the east is the perfect spot to take panoramic photos) and the streets that cross it are so special that they made the Ricetto di Candelo the ideal set for memorable sceneries such as the Freccia Nera, for fiction and even for movies horror.
The strategic location a few kilometers from Biella has made the Ricetto di Candelo the ideal place for the many events held throughout the year. At Ricetto di Candelo the events are of different nature and for all tastes: not only parades and historical re-enactments, but also guided tours for schools, exhibitions and markets organized by the Pro Loco and the City and that allow you to discover even the less known of the village. The calendar of events varies every month and includes wine tastings, concerts and markets of typical products of the Biella area, while in December, the Ricetto di Candelo turns into the village of Santa Claus with an evocative living crib. And if you look for a restaurant in the shelter of Candelo, you will find a wide choice of places, inside and outside the walls.
